In the new year, Special Collections Interim Director Chris Burns is heading north to become Director of Rare Books and Special Collections at McGill University.
Burns joined Silver Special Collections in 2001 and has served as Curator of Manuscripts, Digital Collections coordinator, University Archivist, and Interim Director. He led the growth of the UVM Libraries digital collections program, modernized archival collection management systems and practices, established an innovative archival fellowship program for educators, and substantially increased UVM’s research holdings through the acquisition of hundreds of archival collections. Burns has a lengthy record of presentations and publications and served as principal investigator on a number of grants, including a $2.5 million award from the United States Senate to arrange and describe the papers of Senator Patrick J. Leahy. He is a former President of the University of Vermont Faculty Senate and has held leadership positions in the Society of American Archivists.
We congratulate Chris on his new position.
