The success of Senator Patrick Leahy’s first campaign is credited in part to his expert use of the medium of television. Senate ’74: Choosing a New Leader for Vermont, a 30-minute documentary produced for Leahy by filmmaker Dorothy Tod, ran on five local television networks during prime time and was instrumental in introducing Vermonters to the young, previously unknown candidate. Tod’s film follows Leahy as he campaigns across the state in the weeks leading up to the election, portraying the candidate as a likeable family man committed to the promise of Vermont. Join Senator Leahy and Dorothy Tod on November 20 for a film screening and conversation about the making of the film moderated by Helen Morgan Parmett, the Edwin W. Lawrence Endowed Professor of Forensics and Associate Professor in the Department of English.
