Silver Special Collections mourns the loss of three longtime friends.

Sarah Dopp (UVM Class of 1968) was a great supporter of many Vermont historical organizations, volunteering a seemingly endless supply of time, energy, skills, and enthusiasm. Among other notable activities, Sarah served as President of the Vermont Historical Society Board of Trustees, President of the Chittenden County Historical Society, and as a member of the University of Vermont Libraries' External Advisory Board. She was a frequent visitor to Special Collections, conducting research and attending as many of our events and celebrations as she could. She also frequently donated archival material related to her varied interests, including a wonderful collection of records documenting her time and her mother Katherine’s time as UVM students.

Robert Rodgers was a Professor of Classics at the University of Vermont and a former Director of UVM’s Center for Research on Vermont. Among his many scholarly publications are a number of historical works, including a history of the town of New Haven, Vermont. On multiple occasions, Robert co-taught a class with Special Collections librarians Connell Gallagher and Jeffrey Marshall, a class which focused on topics in script, literacy, books, libraries, cultural expression, preservation, and access.

George Singer, a Burlington businessman, connected with Special Collections over a shared passion for rare books. An avid book collector and longtime member of the Grolier Club, George and his wife Gloria ran the Ashley Book Company in Burlington in their retirement years, a bookstore which specialized in forgeries and private press books. A frequent attendee at Special Collections events, George also donated a large number of books and other materials on fine printing, private presses, and book clubs.

Special Collections is grateful for their many years of support and friendship.
