Photographer, printer and bookmaker Andrew Frost opens our digital series, "Gathering Leaves: Conversations about Book Arts" with a discussion about artists' books.
What is special about a book? They’re easy to take for granted, or to judge by their covers. They line our shelves and form backgrounds for our endless virtual meetings, they pile up at our bedsides, and they languish on our coffee tables. Yet, books can be wonderfully complicated vessels for experimentation. Artists' books take these familiar objects, turn them inside out and upside down, merging the mass-communication of the books we know with the unique specificity of art objects. So, how does it work? Why use the book as an art making medium? What makes these books unique? Join the conversation to find answers to these questions.
The online presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Silver Special Collections by email or call 802-656-2138.
