Fleming Museum curator Alice Boone curated the new Special Collections exhibit, “Archives of Activism.” Drawing from documents and ephemera produced by students, faculty, and administrators, the exhibit focuses on anti-war and related protests during the late 1960s, the call for divestment from apartheid-era South Africa in 1985, and the occupations and protests of 1988 and 1991.
On November 20 at 5:30 pm, Laura Light will talk about the Paris Bible as part of the 2019-2020 College of Arts and Sciences Medieval Studies Lecture Series.
UVM faculty and students as well as invited speakers will talk about UVM's medieval manuscripts during a colloquium in the Billings Library on November 8-9.
The 2019 Artists' Books Showcase has been canceled.
For Open Access Week 2019 (October 21 – 27, 2019), the UVM Libraries are featuring the work of some of UVM’s most passionate open access champions: Penny Bishop, Gary Ward, Tina Escaja, Meredith Niles, and President Suresh Garimella.
In the 2019 Samuel B. Hand lecture on October 10 at 7:00 pm, Stephen Terry and Louis Augeri will detail George D. Aiken’s life and rise to prominence in the U.S. Senate, and examine how his approach to politics stemmed from his early life as a farmer and horticulturist in Putney, Vermont.
On October 4 from 1-5 pm, join artist Marek Bennett for a hands-on comics creation lab. Learn to create & publish original comics based on primary sources of social justice activism in Vermont and elsewhere. No experience required – everyone can draw comics!
On April 23, celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with Silver Special Collections. Come test out a miniature press modeled on the technology of the period to print a Shakespearean keepsake, make a printer's hat, and of course, eat cake!
The current exhibit in Silver Special Collections features a selection of miniature books from our Rare Book collection.
On March 27, cultural anthropologist Luis Vivanco will describe how he’s been using digital newspaper archives to create comics about bicycling and social change in late nineteenth-century Vermont.
